Les Mis in pictures: at the End of the Day

To get a feeling of how deeply miserable Les Misérables really are, this scene includes a lot of angry, hungry people bemoaning their fate.

those are some worrisome faces….

More starving, sad people

…and then we meet Fantine (superbly played by Kira) reading a letter:

Also, a little piece of advice before we’ll get too tangled up into the story to notice the terrific pinafores made by Sophie: NOTICE THEM!

…who only take a minute to joke about the foreman, his breath and his pants…
2b
…but go immediately back to wondering how Fantine’s lack of um…virtue will reflect on them…. Ah, women!
2c
The very villainous factory girl #5 as magnificently played by Abby….
2d
(if we didn’t know this delightful girl in real life, we’d be convinced of her evil scheming)
2e
….more vicious taunting…
2f
…until finally: CAT FIGHT!

Damn, he spruced up nicely!

He also owns the factory. Conflict of interest wasn’t a big thing back then.
3cc
“You there with the bad breath! Take care of this hen house, will you?”

But the factory workers have already made up their mind: Fantine must go.

4
#5 puts in her 2 cents…
5aa
The girls even bare their teeth to show they mean business
5a
Followed by some more hating on poor Fantine
5b
Aaaaand….the French union of factory workers’ decision is unanimous: Fantine’s out.
